Big news out of the shop, and it's the kind we've wanted to share for a while. Sak's Deli is now open for dinner.
For years we were a lunch place. Open for breakfast, and by 4pm we were flipping the sign. That worked fine, but Clayton kept asking the same question: are you open for dinner? Now the answer is yes.
Here are our new hours: Tuesday through Friday we're open 10am to 8pm. Saturday 9am to 4pm. Sunday 9am to 3pm. Closed Monday, because even a Philly guy needs a day off.
So if you've been driving past at six o'clock wishing you could grab a cheesesteak on the way home, this one's for you. Here's what to order.
1. The Philly cheesesteak (obviously)
We're a Philly deli, so start here. Chopped ribeye, onions, peppers, your choice of cheese, on a real Liscio's roll, the official roll of the Philadelphia Phillies. People drive across Johnston County for it, and our Google reviews aren't shy: "best Philly cheesesteak I've ever had" shows up more than we can count. See the menu or order online.
2. The OMG Reuben
This one has a story. A guy from Jersey came in wanting pastrami and corned beef on his Reuben, the way they do it up north, not just one or the other. Matt had never built one that way, took the challenge, and wrote "OMG" on the ticket. The name stuck. Ask for the OMG and Matt will know exactly what you mean.
3. The triple decker
Three slices tall, bacon in every layer, held together by toothpicks and pure ambition. Our reviewers call it "one of the best club sandwiches we have ever had." Come hungry.
4. The Sak's Cuban
Mojo roasted pork, ham, swiss, pickles, and deli mustard, pressed hot. Nobody else around here makes one. We checked.
5. All-day breakfast
Yes, all day, and now into the evening. Real New York water bagels, pork roll, omelette platters, and breakfast burritos about the size of your forearm. Order it at 3:58pm and we won't say a word. See the breakfast lineup.
6. The battered fries
The ones the reviews keep warning people about. Crispy, seasoned, gone in four minutes. Get the bacon cheese fries if you're feeling brave.
Come see the new hours for yourself. We're at 876 Gulley Dr in Clayton, right across from Walmart and behind the Starbucks. Find us, order online, and if you're feeding a crowd, we cater all over Johnston County.
Dinner's on now. See you at the counter.
- Matt
